Wineries
Rutherglen Region

Here's a selection of Rutherglen wineries with friendly cellar door staff and amazing, good value wines. We like to visit them and we hope you do too. Savour the rich complex texture that the dry, hot climate of the region gives to its whites and reds, and let's not forget about those Fortified Wines !

Consider booking one of the local Wine Tour Operators or have a nominated driver. On the way back home to Mortimer's Lodge, call in at Rutherglen's IGA delicatessen counter for a great selection of cheese and charcuterie, then sit back and relax and enjoy your wine purchases in our courtyard or Cellar Door room.

Olive Hills Estate

Olive Hills is a family owned boutique winery situated on a beautiful historic property in Rutherglen wine region in North East Victoria.

The grand homestead and winery were built and developed by Scottish immigrant, Hugh Fraser in 1886. A vision of grandeur and passion to produce fine wine was the ultimate goal.

Now under the care of the Perry family, the estate has been lovingly restored and is a popular destination for wine tastings, lunch and weddings as well as producing fine wine.

Warrabilla Wines

Warrabilla Wines is highly regarded amongst the Australian wine fraternity as a producer of consistently high quality wines of personality and substance. A small production, Warrabilla has gained somewhat of a cult status for their ability to produce wines that are bold by nature yet retain an innate drinkability.

Andrew Sutherland Smith made the first Warrabilla vintage in 1991 with a determined focus to produce red wines of structure which exhibit strong regionality.

Scion is a modern Rutherglen winery offering a thoroughly modern spin on the region's traditional grape varietals. They grow and handcraft wines in small batches – from aromatic afternoon whites and dry rosé to elegant reds and delicate dessert wines.

Self-taught winemaker Rowly Milhinch is a descendant of George Francis Morris, one of Australia’s pioneering vignerons of the mid-19th Century.

If you plan to eat pizza during your stay, then you must have Scion's Grenache.

Squires Winery

Squires Winery.jpg

This winery is relatively young, progressive and totally environmentally-friendly. The owners are very proud of their concerted efforts to be one of the most sustainable wineries in Australia. The owners are not like the 'traditional' winery owners in the area, which have a long lineage of wine making. Instead, Paul and Bern each have moved from very different careers. Situated on the banks of the Murray, Squires offer good food and enjoyable wine, and is very popular with families.
