Why not make a booking to have a guided tour of one of Chiltern’s best kept secrets : Mortimer’s Lodge. The cottage was brought to Chiltern from Melbourne by bullock train in 1895 by David James McEwen as he established himself in the town’s now historic Pharmacy. Although modernised in part and extended, many original features remain, and you can learn about the migration of John McEwen’s father, David, from Mountnorris, Northern Ireland, to Chiltern, and the impact he had on the local area, and for his son, the nation. Follow your knowledgeable guide, listening to the stories unfold, while enjoying a glass of wine or two. All proceeds go to Chiltern Athenaeum.
